Bug stops M4 Macs from virtualizing older macOS versions

By news@appleinsider.com (Malcolm Owen) Owners of Apple’s newest Mac models running M4 chips aren’t able to run older versions of macOS in a virtual machine, thanks to a mystery booting issue.MacBooks running older versions of macOSRunning a virtual machine with older generations of macOS can have its uses, ranging from security and development to simply being able to run software that won’t work with newer macOS versions. However, there seems to be a problem when it comes to using a virtual machine in this way on an M4 chip.Detailed by the Eclectic Light Co. and pointed out by Csaba Fitzl, issues have been found when trying to run macOS versions released before macOS 13.4 Ventura in a virtual machine on an M4 Mac. Foxconn India drops recruitment discrimination against married women

The company’s chair, Young Liu, then tried evading questions about the issue, but India’s government demanded answers.Now according to Reuters, Foxconn has capitulated and has ordered its recruitment agencies to cease discrimination. Apple drops the Lightning adapter that still let iPhones use wired headphones

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) Users who haven’t got around to buying Apple’s short Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter after eight years are now out of luck, as the iPhone 7 accessory appears to be discontinued.Apple’s Lightning EarPods and (top) the adapter for users of older EarPods.Apple’s Phil Schiller may have described the iPhone 7’s dropping of the headphone jack as being “courageous,” but the company wasn’t brave enough to completely kill off wired headphones. Instead, it simultaneously launched a short, stubby Lightning to 3.5mm adaptor, and included it in the box for the iPhone 7, iPhone 8, and iPhone X and XS models.Launched in September 2016, this adapter has now been available to buy for $9 until now, eight years later. Rumors of an Apple-made TV set are back again

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) Apple is said to be considering making a television set, over a decade after it abandoned that idea in favor of creating the Apple TV set top box.An “Apple television” has been rumored for more than 15 years.It’s one of the famous Steve Jobs stories, a claim relayed by biographer Walter Isaacson, which Jobs said he had figured out television. “I finally cracked it,” he said in 2010, adding that his Apple TV set would be “completely easy to use.”Now according to Bloomberg, Apple may yet be having another go at fulfilling that ambition. Tata takes control of Pegatron’s sole iPhone plant in India

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) India’s Tata Electronics is reportedly buying a 60 percent stake in Taiwan-based Pegatron’s only India iPhone facility, strengthening Tata’s position as Apple’s main supplier partner in the country.Tata has reportedly bought a controlling stake in a former Pegatron iPhone plant — image credit: PegatronPegatron and the Tata Group have been negotiating since at least April 2024. This plant, which has some 10,000 employees and helps make five million iPhones annually, will give Tata its third iPhone factory in India, according to Reuters.Tata previously bought out a Wistron iPhone assembly facility in the southern state of Karnataka. AirTags 2 to bring better location tracking in 2025

Scammers posing as Apple Security steal thousands from Wichita senior

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) A GoFundMe account is accepting donations to help a Wichita, Kansas woman who fell for a common online scam that began with a text message to her iPhone.Scam callers, texts, messages, and website pop-ups are not always obvious.Shawna Perdue lost over $5,500 after falling for a ploy from scammers pretending to be “Apple Security.” According to local news station KWCH, she first received a text message claiming that her Apple ID had been used to make a purchase, and if she did not make that purchase to call a certain number.This is a con that works by volume — countless people will have received the same text.
