macOS Sequoia can run on Valve’s Steam Deck with hacks

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) A Hackintosh enthusiast has managed to get a version of macOS Sequoia running on Valve’s Steam Deck handheld gaming device in an exercise they admit is “pointless.”A previous attempt got macOS Catalina partially running on a Steam Deck. Credit: Lampa183The modder notes that they, with help from others, “figured out a way to make [macOS versions] newer than Catalina boot” on the Steam Deck handheld gaming device, creating what might be called a “Deckintosh.” The Steam Deck normally runs its own SteamOS 3, a Linux distribution that supports Windows games and apps using a Proton compatibility layer.This is not the first time a version of macOS has been ported to the handheld gaming device. Apple to launch MacBook Air, iPad Air refreshes in early 2025

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) A new report claims that Apple is pushing back the release of its next MacBook Air and iPad Air models into the first half of 2025.Apple will update a number of its consumer and pro products across 2025.With the launch of the iPhone 16 range now behind it, Apple is turn to the release of devices across the rest of its range. According to Bloomberg, that release schedule has been revised to spread out the device launches across the remainder of 2024, and the first half of 2025.Specifically, it’s claimed that Apple will now hold a MacBook Pro, Mac mini and iPad mini event in late October, with devices shipping on November 1, 2024. New M4 Macs are expected to launch on November 1

Apple beats patent troll, wins suit over Secure Enclave tech

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) Apple has won a court victory in a battle against patent troll Identity Security LLC, with a jury deciding that Secure Enclave, used originally to enable Touch ID, did not violate four patents.Touch ID and Face ID, which both rely on the Secure Enclave, shown off on iPhones.The Secure Enclave is described by Apple as a coprocessor built into the company’s system-on-chip (SoC) designs. The component requires its own boot sequence and software update mechanism, and is responsible for “all cryptographic operations for Data Protection key management and maintains the integrity of Data Protection even if the kernel has been compromised,” according to the company.Identity Security LLC sued Apple in 2021 — eight years after the debut of the Secure Enclave. In the suit, the company claimed Apple’s Secure Enclave tech violated US Patents 7,493,497, 8,020,008, 8,489,895, and 9,507,948. Apple expected to open four new retail stores in India by end of 2025

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) In addition to its existing stores in Delhi and Mumbai, it appears that there are plans in India for four new Apple retail stores, all expected to open in 2025.Apple’s first Apple retail store in Mumbai, opened in April 2023.Apple expects to open new retail stores in the cities of Bengaluru and Pune, while also building second outlets in Delhi and Mumbai. Bengaluru is also home to Apple’s corporate headquarters for India, but has not had a retail outlet there thus far.The existing stores in Delhi and Mumbai first opened in 2023, delayed by two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. iPhone 16 Pro Max is being smuggled into India to beat the country’s high prices

Later that day, another passenger arriving from Hong Kong to the same airport attempted to smuggle 26 iPhone 16 Pro Max models in her vanity bag.
